It never fails. When I most need a kick in the behind or a reminder why I’m following the paleo path, a post from Robb Wolf’s blog appears which is terribly relevant to my current situation. Recently it was Is Stress Wrecking your gut? When I look at what has happened in my life just in the past two months, I wonder why I’m not in the hospital. In fact, I believe I would be in the hospital if it weren’t for eating as cleanly as I do, practicing guided meditation regularly, having a superb body worker, and a phenomenal functional medicine MD.
Yes, there is no doubt that I have suffered from the stress of making our home into a kitty hospital, camping at the real kitty hospital for weeks, not having a relaxing vacation, tons of stress and worry, and lack of sleep. Realistically, however? Wow! I still don’t wear Oscar most days, did both Home Depot and Whole Foods in one outing without Oscar last week, work in the front gardens, and basically carry on. Fatigued, upset stomach at times, and certainly not perfect, but I managed. That in itself is simply amazing to me!
So in answer to is stress wrecking your gut, I‘d have to admit that it’s trying to do so. I, however, will keep up my program of clean eating, relaxation through positive affirmations, getting to bed on time, and being as forgiving and gentle with myself as I am able to be.
